Mahatma Gandhi the father of India

Mahatma Gandhi, known as the "Father of the Nation" in India, was a great leader who fought for India’s freedom. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, India. He grew up in a simple family where he learned the values of truth and honesty. Gandhi went to England to study law and  began his career as a barrister. Spent many years in South Africa. There, he experienced unfair treatment and began to understand the power of nonviolence—a way to fight injustice without using violence.

Returning to India in 1915, Gandhi quickly became a central figure in the Indian independence movement. He believed that peaceful protests could bring real change. One of his most famous acts of civil disobedience was the Salt March of 1930. This 240-mile trek to the Arabian Sea was undertaken to protest the British monopoly on salt production and sales. He encouraged self-reliance and a return to simple living. Gandhi also encouraged everyone to live simply and work together. He taught that love, truth, and nonviolence are the tools for building a just society.

Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela later adopted Gandhi’s nonviolent methods in their own struggles for justice and equality. On January 30, 1948, Gandhi’s life was tragically cut short.Today, Mahatma Gandhi is celebrated as a symbol of peaceful resistance and ethical leadership.
Although he was assassinated in 1948, his ideas and gentle spirit continue to inspire people all over the world to work for peace and fairness. His life reminds us that even small, peaceful actions can change the world.
