The essay Symptoms of Jerome k Jerome has been written in the style of criticism and the writer reveals the fact that he is very well conscious of his own weakness. He felt that wherever he read about the details of some illness or saw other suffering, he felt that he himself has also developed the same symptoms and it suffering from it.

He begins the essay with in experience that once he read about the medicine- the liver pills- in advertisement and at once he starting feeling that he was suffering from liver disorder. This was nothing but simply a whim. He now remember that he had many indicates of this type in his life. One day, he went to British Museum to read about very ordinary disease and its cure but as he started reading it, he was surprised to note that he suffered from many disease. He had the symptoms all of these alimentd which had been discribed in that book. He felt that he was going to be destroyed. When he studied the common symptoms, he felt that he had got all of them. This made him extremely disappointed. As he turned over the pages, he felt that he had symptoms typhoid and various other disease cholera. Now he analysed himself and found that the only disease which he did not have was the housemaid's knee.

          He was surprise to know why he had save himself from this only disease. He however felt that he had been overpowered by painful joints. He thus concluded that the best way for him is to make himself a case for the study of a madical student. The medical students will be able to study these various diseases at the same place and will have no need go to the hospitals. He now began to examine himself  and the condition of his health. He felt his pulse. In the beginning he did not feel it but then it began and he found that it was 147 per minute. He tired to feel his heart and was shocked that it was nowhere in his body. He concluded that perhaps it had stopped beating. He now touch various parts of his body but could not feel or hear anything. He stuck out his tongue and shut one eyes just to examine them. Now he was sure that he was suffering from a number of diseases. He was so disappointed that he come out of reading room with difficulty and all his happiness had disappeared.

In the state of great frustration, he decided to consult with doctor who was his friend also and felt that seeing one more patient to make money, the doctor would be happy. He explained his condition to the doctor in details. The doctor examined him carefully and then gave him a prescription. He kept the folded paper of prescription in his pocket and went to the chemist to purchases medicines. The chemist returned the prescription to him and told that he will get this things not at the chemist shop but at the co-operative Store and family hotel. When he read that prescription he was surprised to note that there was no medicine but the advice for the patient. The doctor had told in it that should be take beer every six hour, go for a 10 mile walk everyday, sleep at 11 every night and should not think about those things, which he does not understand properly. He followed all this instructions, recovered his health and follows them event today.
